Frequently asked questions re lessons

What age do you take students for lessons?

Usually from 13 years of age, but there are exceptions.

What do you teach them?

Until young people are developed and mature enough for muscle building exercises it is important to understand what not to do.

For example, points such as postural alignment and stance, keeping the body relaxed and at ease. Head position corrected. Keeping the shoulders down instead of raised when inhaling. All of these will stand young students in good stead for the future.

Does my child have to practice at home?

Yes all students must practice at home. Simple scales and exercises are provided on audio tape or CD to build vocal strength.

It is a delight to see young students develop and grow into confident singers and enjoying the adventure of performance, whether it be on the professional stage or as part of their school concerts or productions.

TEACHING YOUNGER STUDENTS

Most teenagers today enjoy the latest hits from the charts, and along with some traditional exercises which are fun and songs from the popular Musical Theatre shows appropriate for them, they can sing their favorite songs, while becoming used to using the microphone and performing on stage.

The students have a great deal of fun while learning new skills. Correct and sound vocal techniques are being learned at the same time as they enjoy the excitement of performance and develop a strong and healthy voice.
