BIOGRAPHY OF LYN GILLETT

Lyn Gillett is a professional Vocalist and Vocal Teacher with vast experience as a performer and singing teacher in all styles of contemporary music. With a special interest in vocal health Lyn Gillett is a contemporary style specialist, singing teacher or vocal coach.

As winner of Jazz Solo Artist of the Year 2000 in the Entertainer of the Year Awards in her home state of Queensland, based on the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, Lyn Gillett has a wealth of experience in the entertainment industry to impart to her students. The undertaking of research in Contemporary Vocal Pedagogy and as the recipient of the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence 1999, Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, for completion of post graduate studies in Vocal Pedagogy, ensures students of the teaching of a qualified ethical professional, with the addition of 25 years of professional vocal performance experience.

As a member of ANATS (Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing), Lyn Gillett is continually informed of new developments in Voice Science and regularly attends and participates in Conferences, Workshops and Voice Seminars with National and International leaders in these fields.

Winner of Entertainer of the Year - Jazz Solo Artist 2000 - People’s Choice Award, Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

Resident Jazz Vocalist, Blue Note Jazz Bar, Sunshine Coast, with Jazz Pianist Vince Genova 1998 – 2000

Resident Vocalist at Ridge Hotel, Brisbane with ‘Summer Breeze’ trio with Anthony Marendy on piano

Corporate functions and freelance work, weddings etc. with the Lyn Gillett Swingtet as vocalist and Master of Ceremonies at Hyatt Regency, Sheraton, Twin Waters Resort, Sanctuary Cove, Gold Coast venues, Noosa Jazz festival, Palmers Restaurant, Jaspers, Café Star, Lorenzas, Carey’s Café and Bar and Aqua Bar/Peppers, both as a solo keyboard player and vocalist with Viv Middleton

Appeared at Expo 88 Brisbane with Clare Hansson Quartet

Soloist at Royal Ball, Sheraton Hotel, for Duke and Duchess of Kent

Queensland Performing Arts Centre recital, recorded by ABC with Clare Hansson Quartet

Brisbane City Hall “Music at Mid-day” concerts, with a variety of Brisbane’s best jazz musicians.

Performances in Canberra at the Canberra Rex Hotel, Tilly Divines, the Canberra Yacht Club, and The Albert Hall with Clare Hansson on piano

Lead Vocalist with the Leo Farthing Band, playing mainstream jazz, jazz-rock and fusion Corporate functions, Bars Gold Coast Sunshine Coast

Full time residency at the Chevron International Hotel and Bicky’s Nightclub, Surfers Paradise, with the Capitol Show Band, backing visiting national and interstate artists

Voice-overs and singing for radio advertising

Past President, Vice President of the Sunshine Coast Jazz Action Society

Compere and performer at Jazz on the Beach Festival Mooloolaba for 12 years.
